8.1

General approach to equipment sizing

Lubrication systems are undoubtedly the lifeblood for all types of turbomachinery. Depending on the size and type of turbomachinery, the lubrication arrangement can come in many different forms and types as shown in Figure 8.1. However, in this section, we concentrate only on the typical circulating force-fed lubrication identified in the upper right-hand corner of Figure 8.1, and specifically system configurations that are defined as per API 614 for “special-purpose” equipment.
